It’s Sunday morning, almost lunchtime, and I’m in my study. It’s the room where I feel most at home in. The wall to wall bookcases which J built remind me of those beautiful English libraries you can find in some National Trust properties. I don’t like antiques but everything can be a source of inspiration. Thank goodness for this room, because after a little more than a year back in Malta, I still cannot say that this is my home.
This weekend I promised myself I would try to catch up with a couple of Writing 101 tasks that were given throughout the past few days. It’s been tough for me to find some time to sit down and just write away, and since this is a food blog, recipes were given first priority. But today is a good day to focus on my work. It’s a breezy sunny morning and the only thing missing is a beautiful view. I wish I had the time to drive to somewhere like Dingli, sit on a bench by the cliffs and soak up some of that fresh sea air. I can’t do that right now so I’m in my second favourite place – the study area. So here we go.
The task at hand is to come up with a list of 10 things I like. At first it seemed simple enough, but that’s definitely not the case. There’s a sneaky 11th item in there somewhere. My list could go on and on, so the scope of this exercise for me is to learn how to condense ideas. If you are a regular reader of C&T you might already know that my posts are of the long-ish kind. So before completely defeating the purpose of the task I’d better be on my way! These are listed in no particular order of preference.
It’s nice and sunny once again this morning and this time the fine weather is here to stay, at least for a little while. The blue skies bring back fond memories of Outwood, one of my favourite National Trust places in Surrey. In warm weather it beats being by the sea, at least for me. I loved the woods there, and coming from me that says something! The common is a great place to sit and have a picnic, and walking around the place is relatively easy, with plenty of decent footpaths.
First of all: Happy New Year everybody! Christmas has come and gone, and so did the holidays. I really hope you had a good one and we all hope for the best for ’15. 2014 has not been one of my best years but I got through. Phew. Now the only way to look is onwards so let’s go.
If you know me personally you will have no doubt as to how much I miss our years in Surrey. Please don’t think that everything was plain sailing; nothing in the real world is totally charmed. We had our ups and our downs, but one thing’s for sure – the kitchen space in our tiny flat was my refuge. There were times when I cursed its size (for years I wished for a larger space as I was constantly running out of workspaces) but now that this wish is granted I do tend to feel lost. I was saying that to my beautiful Mum this morning. She understood.
