Snowy View in Woking

Snow in Woking.

I really can’t remember exactly when I took this photo, but J’s recent photography exhibition stirred a nostalgia in me. He made me want to look through all my old photos, all taken with my old Fuji. Some are good, others are just OK, and older ones are just rubbish. Ah, the good ol’ days, when I took snaps without a care in the world. I take better pictures now, or so I hope, but there’s nothing wrong in them, it’s a step I had to take. To a certain extent, that simple camera ignited my interest in photography. When J used what is now ‘my’ trusty EOS 30D, I carried my little Fuji everywhere with me. The beauty of it was that before we had smartphones with what are now considered to be pretty good cameras, all we had were little-but-still-on-the-bulky-side point and shoot devices. They were adequate but it was nothing compared to SLRs. I’m guessing that this shot was just a souvenir snap with that Fuji.

Around Guildford Cathedral

Cathedral (8005)Dear reader, another week has passed by and to be very frank I had no clue what to write about today. I did some soul (and photo) searching and I found the following set of photos, taken while still living in Guildford. And then it just clicked – I’ve moved back to Malta 3 years almost to the date.

Quick Lentil Salad

Lentil Salad with Rice (9929)

Before I start writing a post for this blog, I also browse through my old photos as well as the more recent ones. There’s always a throwback in there which for some reason has either escaped my noticing it, or has lost its turn to be replaced in line with a new recipe or an exciting book review. There’s nothing I like best other than to spend my winter afternoons and early evenings in my study, reading or writing and sipping hot chocolate. In summer I just can’t get my mind to concentrate much. Aprile dolce dormire, the Italians say, dolce dormire roughly meaning a sweet sleep. So while C&T HQ keeps on working on the writing, recipes and other miscellaneous photos, I can spend some time sorting through my archives.

Coffee Date #6 ep. 2

So we finally sit on the most comfortable sofa we can find, I fetch our coffees and you immediately ask me about my trip to the Lake District (because you’re nice like that). Cappuccino for you, an espresso for me. I need it on drip today because I’m almost asleep. Sorry about that.

Writing 101: Home (One Word Inspiration)

Cathedral from the Castle (9799)

It’s Sunday morning, almost lunchtime, and I’m in my study. It’s the room where I feel most at home in. The wall to wall bookcases which J built remind me of those beautiful English libraries you can find in some National Trust properties. I don’t like antiques but everything can be a source of inspiration. Thank goodness for this room, because after a little more than a year back in Malta, I still cannot say that this is my home.

Guildford: a couple of pics

Cathedral from the Castle (9799)

First of all: Happy New Year everybody! Christmas has come and gone, and so did the holidays. I really hope you had a good one and we all hope for the best for ’15. 2014 has not been one of my best years but I got through. Phew. Now the only way to look is onwards so let’s go.

Roasted Butternut Squash with Broccoli and Feta

Roasted Butternut Squash with Broccoli and Feta (8953)

If you know me personally you will have no doubt as to how much I miss our years in Surrey. Please don’t think that everything was plain sailing; nothing in the real world is totally charmed. We had our ups and our downs, but one thing’s for sure – the kitchen space in our tiny flat was my refuge. There were times when I cursed its size (for years I wished for a larger space as I was constantly running out of workspaces) but now that this wish is granted I do tend to feel lost. I was saying that to my beautiful Mum this morning. She understood.
