Barista Masterclass at Costa Coffee Malta

the-drop-0926how-to-make-a-flat-white-0894So less than a month from the International Coffee Day event it was time to head off to a Barista Masterclass at Costa Coffee in Balzan. With my camera of course, and J. You could say that J did all the work this time together with another ten or so coffee enthusiasts. I went along and took loads of pictures which is what I love best. I promised solemnly though that next time I’ll leave my camera behind and follow some instructions myself.

Places to Eat: Keops

img_20160913_204703I am blessed to have great friends. They are good people who fill my life with joy and serenity, and having no brothers nor sisters, they’re my support system and my tribe. You can count my friends with one hand but they’re all I need. They are honest, trustworthy, loyal, dependable and non-judgemental. And total foodies. I almost ‘heard’ you trying to guess and you were completely right. So M suggested a great place we could try for a lovely meal and a long catch-up chat. It was so good, we went there twice in matter of a few weeks.

International Coffee Day Event at Costa Coffee Malta

beans-0780costa-cups-0782One thing I thought I was going to miss after moving back to Malta was the coffee culture. I genuinely thought I would be disappointed. The thing is I could never find the good stuff during my various visits to see friends and family here. Only recently I’ve been to a place where the coffee just didn’t cut it. Honestly I would have been much happier if I just ordered a glass of still water, instead of wasting a few euros drinking tasteless mud. It was undrinkable. Having said that I would advise you never to order an espresso from a pub when you’re in England. There could be good ones you never know, but I wouldn’t risk it if I were you. Ah, memories!

Flora’s Tearoom: One year Anniversary

Pancake of the Week (0683)

Update: Please note that as from the 28th October, 2019 Flora’s Cafe is permanently closing down. It will now only cater for private events and tea parties.

One year goes by so fast. I find myself saying this repeatedly these days. A year ago I was told by a good friend of mine about a little tearoom and cafe’ (thank goodness) in the heart of Naxxar. You should go, Anna said, you definitely should. So that’s basically how Flora’s, which I think must have been open for just around two days, went straight to the top of my places-to-visit list. I had moved to Malta with J the previous summer and was looking for quaint independent places where I could have good coffee and a piece of cake (or two) while chatting to my mum or for just reading a book. Needless to say, discovering Flora’s felt as if I hit the jackpot.

Outwood

Wheat (9615)

It’s nice and sunny once again this morning and this time the fine weather is here to stay, at least for a little while. The blue skies bring back fond memories of Outwood, one of my favourite National Trust places in Surrey. In warm weather it beats being by the sea, at least for me. I loved the woods there, and coming from me that says something! The common is a great place to sit and have a picnic, and walking around the place is relatively easy, with plenty of decent footpaths.
