The Happiness Tag

There’s this lovely tag doing the blogging rounds, and it was sent my way yesterday via my Michigan foodie friend Sadie, from Sadie’s Nest. Our mutual friend Anna, from Life Bellissima has also given me the sweetest mention and so here I am writing up mine. I thank both of you lovely ladies from the bottom of my heart for your friendship and generosity of spirit, and for taking the time to blog your recipes and posting updates on your families and lives.

The rules for this tag are pretty simple, and it’s all about sharing what makes us happy: 5 things, 5 songs, 5 blogs. This tag reminds me somewhat of my Coffee Chats and I was reluctant at first because I didn’t want to repeat myself too much at the risk of boring you all. However I still thought about giving this a go.

Things:

What I like to call ‘My Tribe’ in no particular order, near and far – my family, my husband J, my dearest friends Christina, Maria, and more recently Amanda, my blogging friends Sadie, Anna, Terry, Jasmine and Nick. You are the best. My friends from Surrey, my voice of reason and second mum Fiona, my sweet friend Abigail and Andy. And cousin Pauline. I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone. I love you all.

Coffee – do I need say more? (I’ve been cutting my intake a little lately…just a little.) Perhaps with a good afternoon tea?

Winter months – I’m definitely not a summer person and never have been, although living on this miniscule island you try to learn to live with it. We didn’t get much of a winter this year so looking forward to see what the next one will bring.

Reading – give me a good book and I’m set. That reminds me, I bought a few poetry books while we were up in the Lake District which are patiently waiting for me on my bedside table. Cookbooks come at a close second.

Silence or a relative amount of peace and quiet – I need this guys. I really do. I just can’t stand people yelling on beaches, or in any public place. It’s just not on. And in a country where there’s always some annoying neighbour, a quiet place is a treasure.

Songs:

Am I allowed to cheat a little here? Those who know me will get this, but I’ll explain anyway. I mean who on earth includes a requiem in a list of happy stuff? Well, me. But something so well-executed just cannot be set aside. I’m funny that way…

Faure’s Requiem in D Minor – look, before you say anything, just listen to the recent rendition of this at the BBC Proms given by The Choir of King’s College Cambridge accompanied by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, if you’re into classical music of course. Then we’ll talk.

Galaxies – and almost everything by Owl City.

When you say nothing at all – Ronan Keating. (This is for you J.)

Paradise – Coldplay. Not necessarily a ‘happy’ song but the tune is uplifting anyways.

Superheroes – The Script. We are stronger than we know.

Bonus tracks for luck, like throwing salt over the shoulder:
Love Logic – Mamas Gun

Drive – The Well Pennies. What a day for feeling alive!

Blogs:

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, and in no particular order, here are the ones I love to read. They have already been mentioned and tagged on other blogs but they are my top choices.

Sadie’s Nest: Cooking, baking, life with Sadie, Owen and their four lovely children in my beloved Michigan, family fun and adventures, adorable kiddies and one amazing superwoman!

Life Bellissima: Life at a family farm in Idaho with Anna, Jonathan and two beautiful little ladies, wholesome and nutritious food and loads of beautiful animals and pets. Plus Marcie the family cat is always ready for some cuddles.

The Richmond Avenue: Jasmine’s blog is truly the goals. Clean format and full of knowledge. Jasmine is originally from Texas but has moved to Louisiana, so she’s my go-to when I need ideas for spicy food. I also love her pasta dishes. Her latest blog post though – you should really read this.

Spearfruit: Terry is one of my latest blogging friends. He writes everyday. He’s a fighter and a wonderful person, who inspires me to live better in the present. One day at a time, he says. And however he feels, he will be the first to wish you a Happy Day.

Muddy Boots: Now this is a shout-out to my hubby’s blog. Not solely because he’s my J, but because his photos make me happy. He’s in his element when taking pictures, and I’m always there to pick his brain on anything. Plus he’s a great teacher, and never keeps info to himself.

Enjoy!

      1. We are going to be in Malta for the last week of the year. Flying out on Boxing Day and returning on the second of January. My parents will be there for part of the time. Will be seeing my brother and sister in law as their baby is due early December!

We should meet up if you guys are free anytime that week?

  1. Roberta, this absolutely made my day!!! Thank you so much for putting such a happy silly smile on my face. I’m so glad we have become friends and have gotten to know one another over time! I love Sadie and Anna’s blogs, as well, and now I’m really interested in checking out your hubby and Terry’s sites, so thank you for sharing them! Hope you guys have a lovely and relaxing weekend! ❤

  2. Thank you so much for your kind words, dear Roberta! As Sadie mentioned, I also smiled from beginning to finish! You are a wonderful blessing, sweet friend, and I wish I could give you a hug in person! 🙂 Have a lovely and very happy weekend!! xo

    1. Oops!! Can you edit my post — meant to say “give” not “five” — I’m getting over an eye infection and my typing has suffered! 😦

      1. I will Anna don’t worry. I have to do that on my desktop because I cannot find a way to edit with the app. I’m so sorry to hear about the eye infection, but glad you’re recovering xx

  3. Happy Friday Roberta! I don’t know how much happiness I can keep getting from this happiness tag, but it has happened once again. I smiled from beginning to finish! And a nice selection of blogs (if I do say so myself 😉).
